| HB 438 - Miller, J.H. - Learner's permits; issuance to minors when school records show they have unexcused absences. |
(H) Committee on Transportation | (H) Continued to 2009 in Transportation | 02/07/08 |
notes:
Prohibits issuance of learner's permits to minors when the records of the school they attend show they have had more than five unexcused absences from school in the six months immediately preceding their application.
NOTES: HB 438 - Role of schools is unclear Current Code language includes parental override even if student not in good academic standing or in compliance with compulsory school attendance law. We believe the role of the parent is clear in Code and that the school should not become involved with the issuance or non-issuance of a learner's permit. |
| SB 537 - Barker - School boards, local; required to develop policies for changing students grades. |
(S) Committee on Education and Health | (S) Failed to report (defeated) in Education and Health (5-Y 10-N) | 02/07/08 |
notes:
SB 537 would require local school boards to formulate policy to address how and when a student's grade might be changed.
